The Roomba s9 is iRobot’s D-shaped robot vacuum from the premium line that also includes the s9+. The s9 is the robot. The s9+ is that robot packed with the Clean Base automatic dirt-disposal station. Black Friday 2026 listings swap those two names, add generic “Roomba” photos of round robots, and sometimes attach a Braava mop that was never part of the s9 box. The shape is the first check. The s9 is squared off at the front so the corner brush can reach a baseboard. A round Roomba is a different series.

iRobot built the s9 with dual rubber rollers, an anti-allergen system that traps dust in the bin, and camera-based navigation it called vSLAM. It learns a map of a level of the house and can take specific room names in the iRobot app. PerfectEdge is iRobot’s name for the side-brush path that follows the wall. Those are the features to confirm in a listing. Suction numbers in marketing copy vary by how they are measured. This page does not repeat a pascal figure as if it were a lab result.

Roomba s9 Black Friday Deals 2026: The Robot, Not Automatically the Clean Base

Read the plus sign. s9+ means the auto-empty base is in the box. s9 without the plus means you are buying the robot and you will empty the bin yourself. Both are legitimate. They are not the same package. A photo of a robot sitting on a tall tower is often the s9+. If you do not have floor space for the tower, or you do not want bags for it, buy the robot alone on purpose. If you do want the tower, require the plus in the title and in the included-items line.

The bin on the robot is small because the body is low enough to go under many sofas. On the s9 you empty that bin after the runs that fill it, especially with pet hair. On the s9+ the robot returns to the base and empties into a bag. The bags are an ongoing supply. A Black Friday kit that includes a few bags is useful only if you bought the plus. Bags do not fit a decision to skip the base.

Navigation wants light and a little order. The camera maps the ceiling and the room. Dark rooms, covered sensors, and a floor rearranged every day make the map worse. The robot can store maps of a home. Stairs need a cliff-sensor path that is already part of the design, and a cliff sensor blocked by dirt is how robots find the stairs the wrong way. Clean the sensors. That maintenance is ordinary.

Dual rubber rollers are the part you will pull out and wash. Hair wraps less than it did on bristle brushes, and it still wraps. iRobot sells replacement rollers and filters. A Renewed s9 should say whether those wear parts are new. If it does not, assume they are the original parts at an unknown age. Filters are how the anti-allergen claim stays true. A clogged filter is just a weak vacuum.

The app is how you send the robot to a room, set keep-out zones, and check the map. Keep-out zones matter more than a magnetic strip if you have pet bowls or cable nests. The s9’s square nose is good in corners and it can still wedge on a chair leg. A keep-out zone is cheaper than a rescue.

Where It Fits and Where It Does Not

The s9 is a vacuum. It does not mop. iRobot sold a Braava jet mop that could be coordinated in software with some Roomba models. That mop is a second product. A listing that shows a mop pad on an s9 photo is describing a bundle or describing the wrong robot. Carpets, rugs, and hard floors are the s9’s job. Thick shag and tasseled rugs are where the corner brush eats fringe. Pick up the tassels or keep the robot out of that room.

Thresholds and black carpets are classic robot problems. A dark rug can look like a cliff to an optical sensor. A tall threshold can stop the D-shaped body. Walk your floor before you blame the model. The s9 is larger and more square than a basic round Roomba, so it needs a path about as wide as its body, not a maze of dining chairs.

It is not a substitute for a stick vacuum on a muddy day or a shop vacuum in a garage. It is the robot you run on a schedule so the everyday dust and pet hair do not wait for the weekend. If you need a mop every day, look at a combo robot and accept that you are leaving the s9. If you need the strongest self-emptying setup iRobot sold around this robot, look at the s9+ and name it.

Battery and runtime depend on floor type and on whether you use the maximum cleaning mode. This page does not invent a minute rating. Expect to dock the robot and let it charge between large jobs. The dock needs a plug and a few inches of clear wall so the robot can square up. The Clean Base, if you bought the plus, needs more vertical room than the charging dock alone.

Black Friday Advice

Sort s9 from s9+ before you sort any kit. Then confirm the photo is the D-shaped robot, not a round i-series or j-series machine that happened to rank for the same word. Then read Renewed or used if those words are present. A Renewed s9 is Renewed. It should say so, and it should say what was replaced. A used robot with a dead battery is a parts unit.

Extra side brushes and filters are the accessories that match this model. A generic “universal Roomba” brush may not. Bags match the Clean Base, not the bare s9. A mop bundled in the photo is a second decision.

When you shop, confirm Roomba s9 or s9+ in the title, confirm whether the Clean Base is included, and confirm the condition word. The live page is where the current offer appears. The robot you want is the square premium Roomba with rubber rollers and camera mapping, with the auto-empty base only if the plus sign is really in the box.
